A good looking image posted here into the competition! Your fine, full and appropriate composition offers us an enjoyable view of that grizzled, resting man. Shades and tones are good. Exposure and sharpness are fine. Well done and good luck!

Wow, a special black and white presentation with a person and even on the tree there are white sections, so the black and white content for the contest is outstanding.
Your picture was well created from a nice angle and position, and a good close up so we can really see all the details and the really black part is in the background with even again white pieces which is outstanding - a great presentation, all the best of luck

Thank you Regina. The original was of course in color and looked fairly nice. But when I changed it to B&W for the contest I think it turned our even better. Thank you for your best wishes ~ Steve

Hi Steve, Love the pose and that face! There is a lot going on in his expressive look. Nice job of capturing the look! It's not just a portrait you captured emotion here. He definitely is a cowboy with a story behind him. Very nice entry for the BW contest! Great image for journalism too! :o) Nancy

Excellent portraiture, Steve. Looks fantastic in black and white which lets the character of the piece shine forth. Perfect lighting and composition and details. You should do more of these types of shots.

A beautiful image that looks particularly good in black and white which I think accentuates the rugged look of your subject. A great image with a complete range of tones. Best of luck in the contest.

Great photo and entry for this contest. Your high contrast black and white works really well for this image. Your subject has lots of character, and the black and white really emphasizes that. All the best in the contest, well done

Excellent entry for this contest Steve, I especially appreciate that he is not looking at you making it more natural, he leans against the post looking out to his left at something .
You have photographed him well with good focus, this image is clear, exposure is correct, I see good tonal variations in the B&W, I love the cowboy hat and the denim shirt and jeans , awesome belt buckle .
He is perfectly placed within the frame and I like the darkened background . He looks like someone who would have some interesting stories to tell and I hope you were able to get this image to him!
Well composed and presented! Very best wishes to you in this contest!

Thank you so very much pat for your detailed and artistically written review. He just had that 'look' that caught my eye. I took this is a town here in Mexico. Just after I got the shots he walked away. I Neve did get to show him the pix. The originals were of course in color. I am glad that the B&W contest came along. I definitely think he looks better in B&W. Thank you Pat for your Grand rating ~ Steve
