This is outstanding photography that you really deserve a "6" for. Congratulations on your win. There is so much to enjoy in this image. The goldfinch is adorable. I suppose he helps the farmer also by eating these thistles.

It is completely new to me that birds would eat thistles. It must be the seeds they are after I suppose. You have pictured this little Goldfinch so well, and I especially like the way the plants are framing it.
The bird is standing out sharp and well defined against the background, and it is clear details to be seen in the bird. The exposure is perfect.
The cropping is very good, and the bird has got a very fine placement off to the left. I think this is a truly sweet and well taken photo Willie, and with an excellent DOF. I wish you luck with the contest.

All the little seed eaters love thistle seed. They sell it in the stores. The day I saw this I was in my car. I stated shooting way back and kept moving up, shooting all the way. I have a lot more shots of this pretty bird.

I guess it is in the nature of weeds to thrive despite all attempts to irradicate them (my vegetable garden is a perfect example). A beautiful shot that is very nicely composed. Best of luck in the contest.
