Thank you, artist friend Lise, so much for your review and encouraging words. You helped me feel better by missing the contest. (I also missed the line and curve contest due to site glitches and my computer crashed, but am able to enter that much work into the black and white contest.)

The charcoal gray background works perfect, making her brightness pop. Great color, contrast, detail and overall talent.

Nicely done! I love the bold colors of the umbrella against the rainy sky and your granddaughters beautiful blue eyes with such excellent detail. The off center framing is pleasing. Beautiful work artist friend Glena!

You have a great collection of grandkids. This is delightful and full of color. Her eyes are the heart of the scene and adds that certain spark of life. The umbrella directs the focus of the scene to the playful attitude of your granddaughter. Fun and will be a family heirloom for decades to come.

The color and the texture has an antique feel. Even though the eyes of the child are not huge it reminds me of a Margaret Keane piece. She's one of my favorite artist. You obviously continue to out do yourself. I'm already a fan.

Hi Glena, Sorry to hear about your computer! When I read about this image and you said the girl pushed back the umbrella, I thought of the movie, "Singin In The Rain". Why else would your granddaughter push back the umbrella unless she loved the rain. Love the way she is looking up, right into those raindrops. She does have anticipation on her face. This is a fun piece that I enjoyed! Thanks for sharing! :o) Nancy

Thank you, artist friend Nancy. Yes, it is a fun piece, did not aim for realism as I do sometimes. And, too, just getting back to other forms and learning watercolor pencils som. I appreciate your reviewing.

Glena, I always love your work. The concept and idea of this piece is sweet. The colors are beautifully vibrant and you know how I enjoy colors! Her face is lovely and done well. She's so pretty.
Unfortunately, the hands don't seem to be the correct size for your subject.
Hands are always my most difficult thing to get right! So I understand.
I also feel that the hand in front of the umbrella would look better if gripping the handle.
Keep working it! (Smiles)
Hope things get better with your computer soon! Miss seeing you.

Thank you, artist friend, Jewell. I agree; I started with her grasping the handle and made everything up, imagination. I hope to do better with watercolor pencils, however, first to get back to regular watercolors and perhaps have a reference when doing it. Thanks again for reviewing.

You are a great artist!

Thank you again. I reworked the hands some, extended the umbrella handle, if it ever gets loaded with the edit.

This is fun and whimsical. I like your creativity and imagination. Great colors and definition. I'm sorry you are having computer issues that's so annoying. You pulled it together and still got to share your lovely water color painting. Very well done.

Thanks, artist friend Monica. First time ever using watercolor pencils and not time to correct my mistakes. Thanks for reviewing.

Glena. I love your work. I really do. I love her face and her expression. I love the colours. The umbrella looks worn like umbrellas do in the rain. This is great. One thing though is the hands, they are small and the one hand isn't even holding the umbrella. The umbrella is just hanging in the air. The umbrella handle should be longer as well. These are the only things that prevented a five star.
I am so sorry you are having so many issues with your computer. I sure hope you can get that fixed and get back on track with your art as I so enjoy seeing your creations. It's been awhile. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you, artist Linda. I did all of the painting by imagination, didn't have to time to correct the small hands, etc. I intended her to be holding the umbrella but then decided to have her pushing it back. I definitely should have made the handle long and hands bigger, etc. Thanks for reviewing. I hope to get back to regular watercolors as I can and not the pencils until I do the other first.

You are welcome. I hope to see much more art from you soon. :)

Glena, You have not been shy with your criticism in your reviews of my work in the past. I see you do really nice work (like the face in this painting, but there are some places where the painting is not perfect. However, I am not holding it against you on the number of stars given. The subject in this artwork is not even holding the umbrella, and the left hand looks odd. The arms are too far back - almost as if they are not attached. It is like you spent time on the face and then stuck the arms on without even trying just to be done.

Thanks for reviewing. I imagined most of the work, not having a reference, and just went to the umbrella (handle too short too) and concentrated on some rain, the face somewhat to make it a cartoon like work, not the usual realism. Too, it was my first time ever using watercolor pencils. Please see my rose in watercolor done years ago, in my profile. I hope to get back to that.

Thank you for accepting my comments in the spirit they were intended. After I sent the review, I was afraid you would be upset. I know you are talented, as I have seen some of your other work. Thank you. Regards, Thomas
