From what I can see your carving on His face is fantastic. I would have much preferred the sculpture to be standing to get a better view. I am happy you were able to preserve your carving from 35 years ago. You should be proud of this accomplishment. A treasured work created by you.

Thank you, artist friend Monica, for reviewing and kind words. I have it standing in a box and hope to present it from the front when I get some other things done and my husband helps lift it.

I think it would hav been better if this had been photographed with the sculpture standing upright and facing front instead of just lying flat and on the side. I don't get to see much of the face and it looks like a giant block of chocolate if viewed from a distance. Also the background should have been more of a plain solid color but that's just me I guess. I'm giving it 3.5 stars because it could not have been easy carving into a hardwood like walnut and it was a great effort on your part. :)

Thank you. That is our glass porch table it is setting one. You can see the face clearly, in the three-quarter view, if you look close at all. It took about fifty hours to carve, but stayed good for 35 years, covered with linseed oil in a grainy sack. I should have gotten my husband to stand back up, it is heavy. Hope you will reconsider the rating as it should be on the work as it is quite insulting. Thanks. That is stain on the body and hair strands.

Well I'm puzzled it's a cool sculpture but I'm confused why lay it on the side and then capture it. I think a direct view would be better. The facial is good. The details is good. The depth is good. The creation is balance and eye interesting to the viewer. Creative approach and good job overall.

Thank you, artist friend MK Flood. I should have taken a photo of it standing, as it is in the box where I continue to work on it when possible. It was laid on the table to stain from each side. It is really heavy; I'll get my husband to stand up out of the partial box and me photograph sometime. We were not allowed to use any electrical equipment, only to sand bottom, and two guys cut the trunk off with a side saw, I suppose it is called.

Thank you so much, Jesuel, for your review and support. I chiseled the whole thing by hand; I don't believe I could do that now. I was only allowed to use electric sander for the bottom and two guys hand sawed the log in two pieces. How are you doing, artist friend? I hope well.

I think the fact that you chiseled this is absolutely amazing! I think the work is outstanding! You really honed the facial expression to perfection. Love the grain that defines the hair. I don't know what else to say except I wish I hadn't run out of six stars! This so deserves that honor. Good Luck in the Contest! :o) Helvi

Thank you so much artist friend Nancy. I need the best wishes. Yes, this was hard wood, had to cut the tree trunk. Don't think I could chiswel that way now. I really appreciate your support and your work too.

A beautiful image of Christ carved in Walnut & painted by you. My only regret is that you did not prop him up rather than lying on his back. Beautiful image created by your skilful carving & painting. Beautiful composition framing and lighting taken with superb camera techniques and sharp focus.

Thank you, Susan, artist friend. I'll try to capture Him from the front as I have it downstairs, but I had a picture of this when I worked on it from the sides. Thanks so much, again.

Excellent. I love to see personally created sculptures
I was it was a view from the top as well so I could see the face better.

It looks awesome. You did a great job. Colours and details look great.

Good luck in the contest.

Thank you, artist friend, Linda. It is difficult to believe I could chisel the wood. Glad I did it then; I certainly would have problems doing it now. Again, thanks for revieing and liking.

The positioning of this original piece prevents seeing the entire sculpture. However the work is that of a craftsman with a definite image in mind. Your have translated that image very well.

Critics will undoubtedly comment that Christ wasn't white and didn't have reddish hair. But what the critics don't understand is that throughout history the image of the Lord was a personal interpretation.

Indeed, during the renaissance most images of Christ were done by Monks or other holy men. They would use the facial features of someone whom they thought was most Christ like in actions and thought.

Only wish you had stood the piece for a better look ... Bob

Thank you so much for reviewing and all your fine comments, artist friend Bob. Yes, I stood it when working on it, but I thought I'd treat it differently when working on it for the contest. I enjoyed your info as well and learned more.

It's a beautiful hand chilled wooden bust of Christ.
I can see that you are very talented , you have brought out such amazing detail in the face . I hope that you will resubmit this so that it presents in the upright position, it is difficult to view as it is now. Good luck to you!

Thank you much, artist friend. I probably will resubmit it standing if I am able to get other projects in on time. Thanks again.
