They are indeed beautiful birds; like you, i didn't realize how pretty until I had one perch on the snag on my deck railing and I saw the gorgeous iridescent colors of its plumage ( I should post it sometime-lol!). This is a wonderful photo Pat!

    Thank you so very much LeeAnn! Yes, post your photo! I was blown away when I saw the colors for the first time ! They just look black from a distance .

I never dreamed that the Starling had such an iridescent array of colors. We always considered them to be a nuisance to other bird's nests and eggs, so they were fair game for target practice. So much for my prejudice. The presentation of this bird shows off what you intended us to see. On the surface, he is a handsome looking pretty bird. The broad profile of your post gives the best profile of this colorful critter.

It is amazing colors to be seen in the feathers of a Starling when you get close enough. From a distance they look shiny black, and some times you can see the white spots, but nothing like your photo is showing. The light is falling on this bird in such a lovely way, and it is also standing out really well from the softened background.

The photo is sharp and it is truly clear and well defined details to be seen in the feathers of the bird. The exposure is perfect.

I also like the format you have cropped the photo into, and also the placement of the Starling off to the right. It is a truly lovely and well taken photo Pat, and with an excellent DOF.

They are lovely birds, we have some here that a recent storm brought to us, they dont usually stay here in the winter, there are 4 of them, so I wonder if they will eventually try to fly back south, I love the colours you have captured with this shot

very, very few photographers on this site earned so many six stars for a photo;
your entry is indeed very spectacular with such amazing colors and sharp details in the bird feathers;
why didn't you enter it into a contest ? an obvious winner!

This bird with all these colors in the wings is rather gorgeous. Those greens, blues, oranges and colors throughout are rather stunning. The beak is clear and the bird blends well on the branch and with the background.

    Most welcome, my friend. Lovely wings in colors also.

Very nicely done. You got all the colors to show. Starlings have many pretty colors, just like oil floating on a lake. And just like that oil, no one really wants them around because they are not good for the natural environment. These invasive birds from England have displaced natural species like the bluebird. Nice photo, though! I used to talk like this in college and my baseball coach told me that if I was a bird, I would be a starling.

    Pat, so very much deserved.

Pesky little critters, they can copy the calls of several different birds and some time lawn mowers. They are invasive species but. Well done, like the colors and exposure
