This is a lovely picture of a Blackcap looking puffed up and a bit cold. It looks in focus and well lit. The only thing that is a bit off-putting is the out-of-focus branch in front of the bird but I am sure that you could not have done much about that.

Thanks a million for your complementary review on this little female Blackcap puffed up against the cold. If I was an expert in Photoshopping I could have removed the branch
But I'm not & only do the minimum adjustments.

I know what you mean. I can't manage that either.

These little birds so remind me of our cat birds, she looks cold here, This is well photographed, can see her looking at you with her eye, love the branches and the background . Great photo

Witty title. Darling bird with the so-soft-looking feathers. The background is nice the way you blurred it. The Nightingale seems to be enjoying herself as well. The limbs are clearly seen but not a distraction. You seem to be able to capture a lot of birds, artist friend Susan, and enhance the scenes. Thanks for sharing.

This is a lovely capture Susan. The composition is good with plenty of room on the right of the little bird. The white balance and exposure handled well and focus on eye is sharp.

At first, I thought that this was a work of art. The soft focus is so dreamy and fanciful. The scene is almost a magical dreamscape. The Boeke background adds a reflective light to foreground. Beautiful!

    Gary,
Thanks a million for your complementary review on this little female Blackcap puffed up against the cold. Normally I only see one female & one male Blackcap each winter, this year I have 3 females & 1 male.
The female are constantly chasing each other around the garden. They are beautiful and great fun to watch.

This little Blackcap is really cute and you have pictured it so well. I like the way it is fluffed up, and also how well it is standing out from the softened background.

The photo is sharp showing clear and well defined details in the feathers of the bird, and the exposure is perfect.

The photo is nicely cropped, and the bird has got a fine placement off to the left. A truly lovely and well taken photo Susan, and with a very good DOF.

Nice photo and I like the use of the FG branches to give this a little more depth in the shot. All too often we are tempted to have the clean BG and the one branch with the bird perched on, but this has more of a natural feel about it. Was this taken through a window by any chance? has a slight misty look to the shot? Could be that it was just cold. I've done shots through a window before, and find that upp'ing the blacks in PS slightly helps a bit. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks a million for your complementary review on this little female Blackcap. Of necessity it was taken through my Patio door. If I open it the Dog runs out scattering all birds. I know it's not up to professional standards & I only have a Compact camera I could not afford a Digital camera+ interchangeable lens.

It does'nt matter what kind of camera people have, all that matters is that you enjoy it. I still take shots and win comps with my old 300D :-)

Although this is not a bad photo of this bird i slightly feel this needed a slightly bigger dof only because the tail on the bird is not sharp although the dof on the rest of it is okay...Brian

    Brian,
Thanks a million for your complementary review on this little female Blackcap. These shots are grabbed through the Patio door. If I opened it they just fly off apart from letting the heat out. They perch for just seconds
