an interesting view of this interesting area; however sice your topic is the badlands and not the dry landscape in front, I would certainly crop most of this landscape, leaving 2/3 for the mountains;

Nik,
A dramatic view across the expanse of dry grass to the distant time worn rocky hills bathed in sunshine in the Badlands. Beautiful composition, framing & lighting taken with superb camera techniques & sharp focus.

Sorry for the minus half star, but there's been great discussions on reviewing honestly, so that's what I'm trying to do here.
The erosion of the hills are definitely a good topic to photograph, but I feel the opportunity has been missed as they are a little too far away to see any great detail, and the foreground could use something of interest to draw the viewer in.
I can certainly see why you took the photo, but next time take a few cows along to decorate it Lol. Sorry again.

Very many thanks for your kind, detailed and honest review! I do not have a problem with it. I posted this as change to the more traditional shots of the location of which I have many.

Oh whew, I was worried you may never speak to me again! (It happens!) So thank You for taking my opinion with such grace. :-)

No problem whatsoever!

The foreground and middle ground are both rather nice. The distant hills look somewhat more like distant rock formations which are very nice. Fine capture of it all.

This looks like an abstract painting. Ray Gordon would love it. I too do abstract painting and this readily caught my eye. The light and shadows, colours and composition have worked out well. Good effort!

Typical photograph of the Midwest with the savana grasses and the mountains in the background.
Great details and overall pleasing presentation.

This is a very interesting area of the country for sure. The hills appear to be in sharp focus. The grassy foreground looks slightly less sharp. Kind of reminds me of the many photos I have taken out of the moving RV window:) I can hear my husbands words ringing in my ears " we can't stop very 5 mins" Also in my opinion it needs something in the grassy area to add an interesting focal point. All that being said I would have shot it too.
