Willie, this is one hansom cardinal. All the red markings and beak are a vibrant red. He has a mask and a red feathered crown, the beak grabs attention. Excellent capture. The best of luck in the contest. Ray

Extremely awesome!!!! The clarity is superb. The slight offset in the composer keeps they eye moving back to the original focus point and yet not so ofset the backgrounds simplicity takes over. Nice!

Willie this one is perfectly composed with sharp focus. The bird appears to be posing for you leaning slightly back to show her best side. Colors are natural and the background provides a good contrast.

Willie this is simply a phenomenal shot! I think the female of the species is the tougher to get right.
Colors are bright even in subdued lighting. The neutral background is a nice contrast with the birds colors.
The tight cropped portrait profile highlights every detail of the birds face. The eye and crop are soooo sharp.
Super pin sharp focus, expert settings
and a light hand on the sliders - gets a portrait to die for ... Bob

I really like the close and personal approach, and also how lovely the warm light is falling on Mrs. Cardinal. Especially the shiny eye is well captured, and because of a perfectly softened background, the bird is standing out from it in an excellent way.
The focus is spot on and sharp and it is indeed clear and well defined details to be seen in the feathers of the bird. The exposure is perfect.
I also think the tight cropping is working well, and the bird has got a fine placement off to the left. I think this is a truly lovely and well taken photo Willie, and with an excellent DOF. I wish you luck with the contest.
