A lovely photo for this competition Mary, I do love dahlias! Before the deadline it might be worth a slight crop on the right though, to fully fill the frame, as it is it feels (to me anyway!) slightly unbalanced.
Beautifully focused with good dof and lovely natural colours, and a good blurry background. Very good luck in the contest!

Thanks Charlotte I reloaded it with slight amount trimmed on right after a couple of comments.

Oh that perfect! Amazing how such a tiny trim can make all the difference!

Most of the flower petals are beautiful but some of the petals are rusty life, dark, and the background with the reflections and blurring in the background.

Thanks Glena yes that is the natural color of the dahlia it has slight variations in some of the petals. Not sure I can change what is natural.

Welcome, artist friend. I was just wondering about the petal(s) that had a little rust-like (not seen in the smaller version here).
reply by the author on 22-Mar-2023
The rust like lines on the petals are part of the natural coloring the bud is a lot darker slightly orange in color and as it opens it turns the yellow color but sometimes the orange lines remain. Not from camera just a natural thing for this variety.

Hi Mary, This is a lovely shot, I just wish it was more to the right! Your petals are nice and sharp and the lighting is very good. Dahlia's are such pretty flowers and you showed this one off nicely. Just that one tiny flaw that you could easily fix any time. Good luck in the Contest! :o) Nancy

Single blossom shots should always fill the frame - just like this one.

The color range and lighting of the take are well balanced and contribute nicely to the overall eye appeal of your composition.

This is a beautiful composition that is well framed and makes use of excellent lighting and is captured with superb camera techniques and sharp focus.

A fine entry for this contest... Bob
