Bob,
A very beautiful picture of the Hairy Woodpecker perched on your feeder perch into which it had bored holes. the light sparkling in it's eye while highlighting it's beautiful plumage, sharp beak & feet. Beautiful composition, framing & lighting taken with superb camera techniques & sharp focus.

Susan... Harry didn't bore those holes I did, but he is certainly enlarging them!

Thank you so very much for your kind words and great rating. I am glad you liked the post ... Bob

These birds are quite fascinating as they hang on to the tree trunk. Your composition is good and the colors appear natural. Sharp focus and clarity of the bird.

Bob, this is a great capture! I know how shy woodpeckers can be, so very well done getting such a great close shot!
Good composition, excellent exposure and colours and all of that with such wonderful detail.

Yes they are certainly shy Charlotte. In this shot I am a little more than 10 meters away using a long telephoto.

Thank you for the review of this capture and I appreciate the rating ... Bob

A very interesting narrative and keen capture of the Woodpecker Harry. We were acquainted with a lamb named Harry. Harry is lovely with the blacks and whites, just a touch of red, and a well-defined eye and beak. The feeder post in its different wood colors is well seen and the background looks like a painting in its earth colors. Thanks for sharing, artist friend Bob.

What a handsome little guy he is.
It is such a clear photo that I feel as if I should be able to just reach out and stroke his feathers.
The shadows you have presented really make him pop. I can easily see the downy on his chest. It looks so soft. And even his little yellow mustache stands out.
What an honor to have such a magnificent subject in residence.
Really nice picture.

There is also a pair of Downey's that have been here just as long. In the morning I go out on the deck and listen to all of them chatter away.

Bob, lovely nature capture of Harry the Hairy Woodpecker. You seem to have made a friend for as long as you are around feeding them. Great clear and focussed details. Interesting red colour on the top of his crown. Great clear eye and good lighting to allow clear viewing.
