I don't understand the previous comments: your capture of this stork is excellent: sharp details in the white feathers with good lighting;.....

thanks fred for the good comments and six stars, actually could see their point of view as the whits are slight blown out even if its not a lot,was taken in strong sunlight.

What a beautiful bird Brian and your composition allows us to see the plumage perfectly. Love the lighting.
The focus is sharp and the blurred background complements the bird nicely.

Hi Brian, I love the subject and the POV but the focus is slightly off. If you were able to capture that, this would have been off the chart gorgeous!!! I don't know what it is but in conditions like this sometimes my camera doesn't focus right. The same is true whether it needs a little more light or it's slightly bright. I don't know why that is? I have to mark you down a little, but I still love the capture of the bird. That in itself is stunning! :o) Nancy

thanks Nancy for the good comments, and not sure about the focus thing but do think the strong sunlight works against this

A great pose this stork has offered, so nice of him to turn his head for you!
The upper back feathers have lovely detail, but due to the light conditions the black below has lost all definition.
I always love it when things are backlit, but it's difficult to achieve successfully, a fill in flash might have helped to brighten the all important eye, which here is unfortunately dull and lacking any detail or life.
The image is sharp and the composition is good, with the tight crop, but the lighting conditions were rather against you.

yes you are right was a very bright day as for flash will not use it on wildlife, yes prefer duller days for these.

Thanks for sharing your settings so I can learn from them. This photo of the white stork is done very well. Great detail, color, contrast and dof.

The lighting and exposure for this photograph are so nicely done.
Shadows in the lower portion draw one's eye to the elegant posture of your subject. The glow in the neck feathers really bring me closer to this creature than one would ever be allowed to get. This is a great capture. Good luck in the contest.

Cool,Brian!
That's a good-looking picture and the stork reminds me of the surreal 'stork headed' monster with the body of a giant carnivorous Tyrannosaurid dinosaur that I drew many years ago ! : D

Hey Brian, all in all this is a fine shot. I love the pose and the tight cropping.

The color range of the take is well balanced and contributes nicely to the overall eye appeal of your composition. Excellent white balance control.

Your camera settings are well established and have produced a high resolution image of good contrast, color and tonal range. The frame is sharply focused.

Lighting is the issue as see it. The detail of the head is subdued especially around the eye. The neck and body shows a high degree of resolution and detail.

Just for grins and giggles next time you plan a trip to the zoo bring a strobe set to minimum power. But check first if you are allowed to use one.

I think this is fine photograph... Bob

This stork is indeed elegant , it is in such a lovely pose with its back facing us but it has turned its head to allow a look at its face and bill.
The stork is well focused, the image is clear, the feathers are well defined, the top of the head and front of its neck is over exposed, while the eye is too dark.
It appears that you were fighting bright sunlight, it's mostly good Brian , but. If it's a living thing, the eye is important!
