Fantastic shot Nancy. This snapper is looking right at you, I can see the reflection. There is a tree behind you. I think he noticed your camera and gave you his best side. A real connection. Excellent presentation. This reminds me of the pond I use to frequent when I was a young lad, and there were frogs tadpoles and box turtles, constant awe and wonder. Ray

Hi Ray, Since my birthday was May 30th I'm thinking of the six stars as a lovely birthday present! I'm thrilled you enjoyed this so much! I love taking shots of whatever crosses my path. This guy was a bonus! So glad I saw him out of the corner of my eye! Thank you so much for the incredible review! :o) Nancy

Gosh he's very well camouflaged, I'm not sure I'd have even noticed him - well done for spotting him!
And yes, that definitely looks like your reflection in the eye, with a pale blue top!
So, in conclusion, well seen, well photographed and well edited! Nice job Nancy!

Hi Charlotte, Sometimes all you see is a head dunking beneath the water. I felt very lucky to catch this guy. A Snapping Turtle's head looks so much like a log it's easy to miss them. Thanks for the fantastic review My Friend! :o) Nancy

Thanks for sharing artist friend. That turtle head sure is homely but your photographed him fine, with the water and other surroundings. It is a good capture.

LOL This turtle doesn't exactly have the friendliest face. It's rare for me to come across a Snapping Turtle so I was thrilled to come across this one. I think the shock factor made me take a picture that wasn't as sharp as I wanted, but I'm glad that I got it as good as I did! Totally understand your review! Thanks! :o) Nancy

Most welcome, artist friend. It is a treat to be able to photograph it at all, and you did a fine enough job, really!

I like the reflection of the snappers head in that calm black water.

The more I look at this guy the more it looks like Yoda without ears.

Oh yeah, I do see a speck of blue - that's you? Great eye for detail.

I know that you know the image is just so slightly soft, most notably around the outside of its eye.

That doesn't bother me because this shot is all about a high quality moment you and the Amphibian shared and not so much about digital world technique.

Consider this, capturing this shot was to experience one of those rare, "Moments of Joy"... Bob

Hi Bob, I like how you saw this as Yoda without ears! LOL I think Yoda's cuter though. Since I rarely see these guys I totally forgot how to use my camera. LOL I had a moment of shock! It was a moment of Joy. Even with the slight issue of focus I'm glad the image came out as good as it did. Thanks for your understanding and the great review! :o) Nancy

Your welcome Nancy. That shock of surprise preceding a moment of joy cost me a camera once long ago.

I was surprised by a black bear with cubs. In my excitement I bobbled my camera and dropped it over the side of a low bridge.

The last I saw of my camera it was in the mouth of the mother Bear. She the cubs and my Minolta were headed in the general direction of N Carolina - so don't beat yourself up over it OK... Bob

Wow! That's some story! Thanks for sharing it! I guess the one that got away doesn't always have to be a picture., it can be your camera as well! Glad it wasn't you that got carried away! :o) Nancy

Nancy,
A beautiful & interesting picture of the Snapping turtle poking it's head above water in the dike with your reflection seen in it's eye & it's on the water under It's chin. Beautiful composition framing and lighting taken with superb camera techniques and sharp focus.

Hi Super, He was a monster! If I guessed the size of this fellow, I would say that from the front of his shell to the back it was a good 15". His neck was so wide I think my arm would have easily fit inside. Glad you enjoyed the shot! :o) Nancy

This so-called turtle looks different from different angles. Interesting capture. The light and the composition have worked well, and you have caught the strange-looking turtle very well. Good effort.

Hi Celyn, LOL Once you see the eye you realize that it's a living creature! I would have never seen the turtle if I hadn't seen it move. I would have thought it was a tree stump. Glad you saw the turtle's head. Thanks for the great review! :o) Helvi

I have taken a couple of turtle photos better if you can take one with the mouth open but as they dive under a lot not always easy or possible,so this is the next best thing you can hope for, good clarity in this although if you can get it a tad sharper it would i think improve it...Brian

Hi Brian, I would have loved to have captured this turtle with his mouth open! Wish he'd been more co-operative! Lol I think the element of surprise caused me to be a little off with my focus. I hate that when it happens! Glad you thought I still did a pretty good job! Thanks for your suggestions and great review. :o) Nancy
