The flower is a lovely red, although dry looking in a couple of petals. The butterfly with its dots, black and orange, is lovely. The background is rather ok. Best wishes in the contest.

Love the shot.... but wish the butterfly was on the left side of the flower and the flower was a little fresher! Life doesn't always go the way we want it to though. I think this shows that even though the flower has gone by there is still a bit of magic that attracted the butterfly. Maybe the last bits of nectar are the sweetest? The story of this image is, that if we take the time to really look, we might find something better than we imagined. In that way you have an image that is very special! Nice Job! :o) Nancy

Excellent shot Brian. Great long scale color contrast of the area of interest.
A great deal of visual impact from the framing of the take.
I love the resolution from lower ISO's that you got in this take.
The detail of the bloom and the insect are well shown, colors and tonality are natural in appearance.
Overall I think this is a finely timed dandy of a shot just to bad about the rust on the petals... Bob

This photograph beautifully captures nature. You have timed it impeccably, and the interplay of light and sharpness creates a captivating image of the butterfly gorging on the Hibiscus flower. Good luck!

The colours in this picture are fantastic and the flower is completely in focus. I just wish that the butterfly had been this side of the stamens.

The hibiscus is beginning to deteriorate, but is still beautiful and provides food for the butterfly. The butterfly is especially beautiful because of its colors , the black wings with white detail and that patch on the lower portion is almost the same color as the petals on the flower.
I like the angle of placement of the flower , the butterfly is partially hidden but we are still able to see it.
Well focused, this image is clear, exposure is correct, colors and tones appear natural.
Well composed and presented!

A beautiful picture of what I think might be a Painted Lady Butterfly (though I can't be sure as the Pistil & stamens are across it's wing) sucking nectar from the red Hibiscus that's just past it's prime & starting to wilt. Beautiful composition, framing & lighting with sharp focus.

A very good shot of this feeding butterfly Brian. Where was it taken, was it in Suffolk or further afield? I wouldn't mind visiting a butterfly farm, I've only ever been to one and that was abroad somewhere.
Excellent focus, dof, composition and exposure, and a good entry for the colour red contest - I wish you the best of luck.
