In your unique style you have captured the image of a loon and her baby, adrift in the calm ripple free expanse. The reflection works well. The best of luck in the wild life contest. Ray

A beautiful digital painting of this Arctic Loon with a chick riding on her back. With her reflection seen on the water an added bonus. Created in your artist's eye for composition very skilful digital artist's techniques in bringing this bird to life on your digital canvas.

Thanks Susan for the nice review. I think the baby on the back of the parent helped make this an enjoyable painting I appreciate your comments.

Love the scene. I thought at first, that this is a photograph. Pretty typical and realistic concept of the scene. I can tell that you are so familiar with the loons, you being a Minnesotan. I am enjoying the reflections, as well. The calm and blue lake without any distractions gives the viewers an undivided attention to your subject. The details are superb. Well framed and well composed, too.

Thanks so much for the wonderful review. Yes, being from MN (Eden Prairie) we have lots of opportunity for seeing our Common Loons. The Arctic Loon was new to me. I think with their coloring, they might have an edge on our loons as far as beauty? You picked up on the still water to help emphasis the subjects, loon and baby. Thanks for stopping by and leaving the wonderful review.

You bet! I can only wish to visit Eden Prairie someday and savor the view of this loons. Your artwork had been my dream shot! Wish you luck in the contest.

Oh I really like this so much. The fact that you don't use any AI is to be commended. Achieving this with brush strokes alone is no easy feat. I love the detail and the lovely reflections in the water.

Thanks Christine, I appreciate your comments. Use of AI seems like a shortcut to what we know as art. The painting is just an algorithm that has no emotion behind it.
reply by Christine389 on 13-Sep-2023
Well I have to disagree about there being no emotion, if you create with intent - only because I use AI these days in conjunction with the digital art that I?ve been doing for years. It does give greater freedom to explore different styles and techniques and I can achieve so much more in terms of things like skin tones. However, the skill in using only digital brush strokes is undeniably better and I salute you for that! Christine

I very much enjoy people's view of AI in art. It is new enough we will need time to sort it out. I use it now to generate ideas for digital painting. Since it takes less than a minute to create after entering the prompt, it kind of seems like Mc Art. But it certainly will be around and be influential.

Goodness me - less than a minute?! I spend hours creating and perfecting an image. I guess it depends on what you?re happy to put your name to. AI will give you something instant but is it in any way what you had in mind to create? I always start with a vision in my own mind and then keep going until I get to that. I suppose it?s a controversial subject. I was submitting digital art 7 or 8 years ago here on FAR and I did well then but my work has evolved and now includes AI. I agree with you, it?s the future.

With the detail I can achieve with certain brushes my work often does seem like a photo. Some review it as such, lol. Some think it is AI which it is not. Thanks for stopping byl

When I first saw this I thought it was an AI, but then read your notes and suddenly become very impressed! Drawing on a tablet (in my opinion) is not at all easy, and yet you've created this! It's very good!
The brush strokes in the neck (particularly on the white part) are extremely well done, as is the reflection you've created in the water. The blurring of the brown on the head I like less as I feel it's slightly incongruous alongside the rest of the finely detailed drawing, but the rest (the eye, beak, water movement and chick) is really excellent.
Very, very good luck in the competition.

Thanks Charlotte, I appreciate all the kind comments. Some think my work is AI, but is just seem to be able to create fine brush strokes which makes it look like AI or even a photo. Thanks again.
