Yeah, I know the feeling. But whenever I went home it always seemed to me that it just wasn't the same. Today, the house I grew up in has been torn down. Now just a vacant lot. T. Wolfe was right.
Thank you for the fine review and rating. I'm glad you liked the post ... Bob

A lovely photo presented here. That soft blue sky with a sprinkling of clouds and the lush greens of the landscape with just a touch of yellow creates a beautiful visual. Well done

I must say, I really like the name of this lake, it's fun to pronounce ! We have a lake here called Bottenintnin Lake and I had fun with pronouncing that one too.
This is a beautiful scene , I love that the fog lies low over the surface of the lake, the evergreens on left and right make nice framing , the sky has just enough cloud detail. You have photographed it well with good focus, this image is clear, exposure is correct, all colors and tones appear natural.
Well composed and presented!

Hi Pat.. If you like Memphremagog try this one Ompompanoosuc. It's for real you can find it on a map of Vermont. It is a river about 60 miles South of here. It is a tributary of the Connecticut River.
Thanks for a great review and rating... Bob

I love those names ! They are just fun to say!

Bob, this is a gorgeous scene!
That fog sitting above the lake is extraordinary, not a hint of it anywhere else!
The island sounds fascinating, does anyone live on it? I love the idea of the cave running below it, and it's really great that some of the slaves managed to make their escape by using it!
I looked up the monster and found this poem about him, taken from the 1926 book Sea Serpent Legends by Norman Bingham:
They saw a monster dark and grim.
Coming with coiling surge and swim,
With lifted head and tusk and horn,
Fierce as the spirit of Hades born.
Thought it might amuse you :)

Hi Charlotte.. Before 911 there was one house on the Canadian side. Since then the house was bought and it has been torn down. 911 change life along the border. Derby Line, USA/Stanstead, Quebec. Two towns on the border. A certain street crossed the border. On each side of the line there were close relatives. They used to walk over the border to their sons/daughters house whenever the urge to visit struck. Now there is a barricade across the street. To go to Dad's for Sunday dinner now requires a car trip and a passport.
Love the poem, it fits the scene. thanks for the review and stars... Bob

You?re very welcome Bob.
Oh how crazy is that! You?d think they could just issue passes to the locals enabling them to come and go as they please!
I once lived in a village with a population of less than 1,000 that straddled a county border (the river) - ha ha we didn?t need passports, but they had to have 2 police stations, 2 different garbage collections etc. etc. - such a waste of resources! But the craziest part is that the bridge was no man?s land, so if a crime was committed on it, nobody could do anything about it as it didn?t come under either jurisdiction!

One more tidbit of life on the Borderline. The Haskell Free Library & Opera House, Derby Line Vt. The audience sits on the USA side whilst the Borderline Player's stage is in Canada... Bob

Actually the fog looks like a lake in this, not that it matters, looks quite vast in this and your story about the monster reminded me of the loch ness monster in scotland, good use of the trees in this one...Brian

Hi Brian.. Not to be outdone, there are claims that there is a lake monster in lake Champlain. This one's known as 'Champy' - how quaint.
Thank you for the fine review and rating ... Bob
-
your welcome maybe but have you seen it
-
I can't say that I have, and frankly I have not met anyone with first hand knowledge. I have been told by other sources that at the time of the first sighting the sobriety of the original viewers is questionable.
I have also been informed that the entire Memphre thing was a made up conspiracy by area business types to promote tourism.
Well there ya have it. Take your pick or come up with a better one and I'll be happy to spread it around... Bob

same might be said on the loch ness monster, certainly tourism comes into it

This is fine piece of Nature Photography. This demonstrates how one can never get tired of Mother Nature's beauty. To make it more interesting, a lot of stories are also spun around the lakes. In my country too! Am loving it!

The scene is beautiful, especially the sky and just below. The rest of the landscape is lovely as well. And, I really enjoyed your narrative, description and history of the area. Thanks for sharing.
