You've done a marvelous job with the appearance of the translucent glass platter and the color and lighting of the fruit is well done. I think I would have added some shading and perhaps some reflections in the glass to look more three dimensional so the fruit are more grounded but other than that, it's a beautiful piece that reminds me of Matisse's style of rendering.

Hi Lisa, Thank you for your wonderful critique of my contest entry. Let me start by how this painting came about. First off I do not work with a model arrangement, I don't own a glass platter and I have no fruit in my studio. I let my imagination take me for a ride. If I wanted to present a perfect picture, I would have taken a picture with a camera. Art is like that, it doesn't have to be exact. If I did exact from a model, you would be able to pick it up off the painting, but that is not my intention. I create illusions, when I put down the brush or finish with the piece in my eyes, then that where the viewer takes over and fills in with their imagination. This piece says exactly what I wanted to say and off to the next one, pathetic grapes and all. I think criticism should be constructive and not degrading. I think Matisse would have been very disappointed with just a 5. Critique is fine but when you degrade the rating, to me that is punishing and not constructive. Artist should support each other we are all in the same boat here, we shouldn't punish. I always try to be supportive, as I have always been with you. To bad I can't sign but you should know who it is.

I do apologize if you are unhappy with my review. I did point out all the things I thought were wonderful and compared it to a Matisse which I thought was a compliment.
Based on the star grading descriptions on the sight, I thought I was using the correct grade based on my opinion. Again, I did not intend to degrade your work, only gave my opinion of what I thought. I do apologize that you felt that way, it was not my intention. I do not know who painted this and there are some people on the sight that appreciate an honest unbiased critique so they may improve if that is what is needed. I love all art and perhaps a better description of how you came to create the piece would have helped viewers to understand your intent. Please accept my apology and know that I love many things about your piece and as an artist , understand that what I see and think about a work of art is not what others will see and think and shouldn't be. That is what makes art subjective to everyone.

It is not your fault, sand box rules are different than what is written it sort of gravitated this way. I really like your work nad hopefully you will chuckle when you find out who I am.

A galore of colors and healthy fruits. That crystal tral caught my eye at first glance right away, you've painted that well, that it looks real. Realistic choice of colors. I also like the dark background in contrast with your multi-colored fruit tray. An amazing painting.
