Hi Bob, There's something about Covered Bridges that always captures the eye. Looks like you can see some remains of red paint on this one. Love the autumn view of this one. Though the image seems a little dark it still is a nice one! :o) Nancy

Hi Charlotte.. This bridge like so many others is functional and regularly inspected for safety. I drove over it to get this shot. I always get a kick out of the reasons put forth by people not familiar with these bridges as to why they have a "house" on them. Thanks for the great review and the stars... Bob

You?re very welcome Bob.
I?m presuming a reason is to protect travellers from bad weather, but probably more importantly to protect the bridge itself - being wooden it would have rotted very quickly being exposed to all weathers - or is there another, less obvious reason?

You have pictured this old bridge so well, and I enjoyed reading the story about it. I especially like your vantage point, and also how lovely the autumn colored trees are framing the bridge.
The photo is also very sharp and it is indeed clear and well defined details to be seen in every part of the bridge. Fine textures are seen in the old wood, and the exposure is perfect.
The photo is nicely cropped, and the Durgin Bridge is well placed within the frame. A truly lovely and well taken photo Bob, and with an excellent DOF.

I really like your informative historical commentary of this bridge. I like this old bridge with its shadows, sun rays dancing in front much. The blue sky peeping through and the yellow foliage add much to the beauty of the scene.

Hi Brian.. For my money the best cinematography regarding Covered Bridges might be found in a Clint Eastwood film "The Bridges Of Madison County". Easily erected, durable and cheap are the reasons why these bridges flourished in rural communities.
