It looks like smoke, so I think you are right. For some reason it also look like a snow drift. You for sure had a good view from the helicopter when you captured this dramatic looking photo.
It is also sharp showing clear and well defined details in the closest trees, and the exposure is very good. I also appreciate the nice and natural colors.
The photo is nicely cropped, and I think it is a fine balance in the composition. I think this is a great looking and well taken photo Nikman, and with a very good DOF.

It looks like smoke, so I think you are right. For some reason it also look like a snow drift. You for sure had a good view from the helicopter when you captured this dramatic looking photo.
It is also sharp showing clear and well defined details in the closest trees, and the exposure is very good. I also appreciate the nice and natural colors.

This is a rather eerie presentation. I would say it is a forest fire, being in Arizona. Interesting angle taken from the helicopter, showing a large area that the smoke is covering.

This shot looks like a painting Nik. Living in the East I am used to thick hardwood and mixed conifers. The western forest seems strange to me. Buit it is a safe bet your first impression is most probably correct.
I like how the haze gives the shot an morning low fog.
