I think this is a fine entry for a contest like this, and I like the simplicity and the limited color pallet. I did not know you did pastels as well,
I especially like the textures you have brought out in the wood, and your attention to details when it comes to the melons. The colors look very realistic.
The format and tight framing works well, and it is a fine balance in the composition. It is a well done pastel Allan, and I wish you luck with the contest.

Thanks Annie, I appreciated your review. This is one of may 8 or 9 pastels I did several years ago. I liked the medium but had a hard time with the dust issue. It made a mess on my table and I was a little concerned some of that dust might get in my lungs. I did enjoy the learning curve though. I have a few more to post later.

I have never tried to use pastels, but I can imagine it is a dusty job. You are more than welcome Allan.

I like the choice of accurate colors and realistic setting of this water melon being presented at that piece of wood which could be interpreted as the chopping board or the simple wood kitchen table.
The background really highlights its vibrant colors, too. This painting will surely makes the viewer to have a slice for himself. You have drawn and painted this well and the framing is just right. Looking forward for more your painting later. Thanks for sharing your personal journey in the world of art.

I am going to stop by the store later this afternoon to get a watermelon for some reason. I really regret not stayint with pastel chalk as it was so much fun. But with my desk getting so much dust on it the choice was to move on. I also wondered at the time if one was breathing this dust into the lungs. Oh well.
Thanks for the wonderful review once again.

This lovely painting is making me very hungry. Love your composition, shades, tones, colors, and textures. It's nice to see someone else enjoyed doing pastels, even if it was only for a short time. Thank you for sharing.
