This is another bird I have never heard about before, so of course I had to google it before I did the review. It is indeed a lovely bird, and after seeing photos of it, I can see that you have paid a very good attention to details.

The background of snow is perfect, and I like the way the pines are framing the bird. Very nice brush work as well.

The tall format works well, and the bird is well placed on the hardboard. It is a lovely and well done painting Allan.

Thanks Annie, I thought you might have them in your climate area also. But birds can be pretty specific to each area. Thanks for the detail review, I can learn what I actually did reading your ideas. Thanks.

I like how you have drawn and painted the well-defined textures and patterns of the wings of this grosbeak. The scene is well-conceptualized with the evergreens and the snow. You must have worked pretty hard to paint those needles of the evergreens. I love the realistic colors. A pretty refreshing scene.

Thank you much Nieves for the nice review. I think I had more patience when I was painting back then. That does seem like a lot of work!

I am setting up a work area in my den for a go at watercolor. Hmmm

I had the pleasure of photographing the pine grossbeak on a trip to Valdez a few years back, this is the male and it is truly impressive to view your rendition. This bird is well shaped with good show of its structure and the colors are accurate . I love the way you posed him in the pine tree and included some pine cones. I appreciate the detail in the bird as well as the branches.
The neutral background works perfectly to emphasize the beautiful subject.
This is a pleasure to see, Allan .

Very well created, beautifully arranged and presented!

Thanks Pat, this was surely a feel good review. It makes me want to do more of these acrylic paintings. We occasionally see these birds but not a whole lot in MN. I think we are a bit out of their natural breeding range. Thanks.
