That red just pops here! The Mandevilla is a lovely flower . Red is such a difficult color to capture . I like the two buds allowing a look at the different life stages. Initially the flower appears to be clear, however there is a loss of detail n the petals and it appears that the center portion actually rises above the flower, if I am correct, the center is actually more like a petunia .
The buds are well focused and clear, the natural background allows a sense of this location in your garden.
Exposure is well managed , colors and tones throughout the frame appear natural.
Thank you for sharing the flower and your notes are appreciated too. Perhaps a faster exposure would have allowed more detail.

Hi Pat.. So, I am not the only one who sees that center phenomena. The center is recessed, like a trumpet. I have only seen this optical illusion when I look straight into the center. Deviate from plumb just a degree and the tunnel shows itself. Thank you for reviewing this capture and I appreciate your generous rating ... Bob

Hi Bob!, I love the beautiful shade of red this is! The red is a shade you can't miss1 I even like the additional buds you captured in the shot. I see the image as a wee bit out of focus, and I mean wee! The flower totally wins you over and has good lighting! A joy to view! Not bad at all! :o) Nancy

Beautiful flower, Bob. I used to have a big pot of the Mandevilla on my patio. I haven't the past two years. After looking at yours I kind of wish I had. I like the bright colors, with good contrast and nice blurred background. I do wish that maybe the closer leaves, especially those right under the flower were a little sharper focused since they are in an equally prominent spot. But overall a pleasure to look at. Think I will go back to planting some next year :)

Hi Bob, this image "Mandevilla Afternoon" is such a vibrant flower. It looks like the sun is about to pop out of the centre. I like how it loves the hot sun. Good focus, texture, clarity and composition. Thanks for sharing :-)

A lovely photograph of this red Mandevilla, nice central placement in the frame. The details of the petals and shape of the petals are shown well.

Bob, this is a fine example of the contrast between two complimentary colors. the strong red hue stands out among the light green leaves embellished by the sunlight and the buds await their turn. Very nice. Ray

1st - Thank you for offering such an interesting write-up of the Mandevilla. Your image delivers your intent; to show the color change between bud and bloom. To do so - your decision to shoot at f/14 allowed for just enough depth of field to retain sharpness to the buds. Though I love the mountains - I do wish I could grow or enjoy tropical flowers.
