I love dragonflies. First of all, they eat the horrible gnats in my yard and second, they eat all the mosquitoes the bats don't get. And, not to mention, they are gorgeous. Thank you for sharing!

Hi Tom, I love dragonflies too! I don't know if you've ever looked at their face, but to me it looks like they're smiling. I know what a great mosquito eater they are too! Glad you enjoyed my photo of this one! Thanks for the great review! :o) Helvi

This is a very detailed photo! you can see every part of the dragonflies wings, yes it's a pity that they are damaged, but it's very interesting! You caught a very good shot, I think it was not easy. Thank you for sharing, very good detailed angle!

Nancy,
A very beautiful picture of this Dragonfly with the pale sky reflected on it's battered wings standing out in sharp focus from the blurred background. Beautiful composition, framing & lighting taken with superb camera techniques & sharp focus.
Good luck in the contest.
Susan

Hi Nancy. this is a fine shot of two dragon flies geting ready for the moment. I do see the tattered wings but it doesn't stop them. Nicely focused and a great shot. This is so cool. The best of luck in the contest. Ray

Hi Ray, Your the third person that thought there were two dragon flies. The darn stick the dragon fly is on so resembles a dragonflies body people think it is one. LOL I'm glad you enjoyed no matter how many dragonflies you saw! Thanks for the great review! :o) Nancy

It is a pity with the damaged wings of this dragonfly, but you have pictured it so well. This is a fine entry for a contest like this. The green softened background looks great, and the dragonfly is standing out from it in an excellent way.

The photo is very sharp and it is indeed clear and well defined details to be seen both in the wings and the body of the dragonfly, and the exposure is perfect.

I also like the way you have cropped the photo and the diagonal placement of the dragonfly within the frame. I think this is a lovely and well taken photo Nancy, and with an excellent DOF. I wish you luck with the contest.

You are more than welcome Nancy. I have not been around for a while because my daughter has been very sick and has stayed 5 weeks in hospital. She has revocered well, and has started to work half time.

I also enjoy macro photography of insects and this one was perfectly captured. Dragon Flies can be difficult to shoot, but you successfully got this one! Though tattered, your camera settings allowed for amazing detail in both wings. Diagonally centered in the frame with no other distractions allows the viewer to marvel at the intricacies of this flying wonder. His body blends into the color of the stick - extra recognition to you for even seeing it to get a picture. LOL. Nice Job!

Hi Kathy, I literally had to chase this guy down! Lol When he finally settled down I finally got a shot. I learned dragonflies often come back to their previous landing spot. The shot was well worth the time! Thanks so much for the great review! :o) Nancy

Dragonflies are my favourite insect. I used to take my children to a park and have them sit quietly. The dragonflies would literally land on their toes or their fingers. Composition shades, tones, colors, and background highlight this insect perfectly thank you for sharing.

Hi Maureen, I've had dragonflies land on me too. I've always loved dragonflies because when you look at their face it looks like they're smiling! Who can resist an insect that's always smiling? Thanks for you lovely review and your own personal story! :o) Nancy

Yes guess its days are numbered judging by its look in this, good close up though with detail top notch, maybe a tad bit tight in taking this hence the clip of the bottom in this, but that aside good photo...Brian

Hi Brian, it sounds like you think I clipped off the bottom of the dragonfly, but the whole dragonfly is within the frame.
I think you were looking at the stick the dragonfly is resting on. Other than that I'm glad you thought I did a good job. Thanks for the great review! :o) Nancy

Hi Brian, Someone else thought there were two dragonflies because of that stick. I have to admit it does look like the body of a dragonfly! I understand why you thought I cut part of the body off.:o)
