A lovely photograph of this Kookaburra on the ground. Your focus and clarity are good showing nice detail of his feathers and profile. I was in Australia some years ago and took pictures of these birds, but unfortunately they were up in the trees, too far away to capture enough detail. Thank you sharing.

Hi Mary, Kookaburra not only have a strange name but seem to be a strange looking bird as well. The definitely have a squatty look, are heavy and have a large beak. You captured a nice shot of this one. Is that a touch of light blue in the wing feathers.? I didn't know these birds had blue in their feathers. I think the bird is very interesting and I like the close-up you got of it! Thanks for sharing! :o) Nancy

Thanks Nancy, yes there are several species of Kookaburra and this one does have the blue on wings.

I think this is a truly pretty bird, and you have pictured it so well. The light is falling on it in such a lovely way, and it is also standing out well from the background.

Your focus is spot on and sharp and it truly clear and well defined details to be seen in the feathers of the bird. The exposure and white balance is perfect.

The format is working well and the bird has got a fine placement within the frame. I think this is a truly lovely and well taken photo Mary, and with a very good DOF.

You have captured an interesting subject here. It's the first Kookaburra I believe I've ever seen. Though its colors are shared with that of the surroundings (mulch), you have captured this winged subject with great detail, depicting both detail and texture. The low light setting allowed for ample clarity in the white areas of the bird.

I can just imagine your joy while capturing this Kookaburra landing close to you. Excellent angle, natural light, focus and pov. You've showcased its facial features and overall body. Love the natural scene of earth toned mulch and the unedited version of your subject. A rare find and is joy to view. So sorry I am out of six.

the only shots of kookaburras i can get over here is in a zoo,so must be good to see these in the wild, nice close up it looks a bit dull there only say that because you can,t quite make out detail in its eye,but apart from that a good one....Brian
