This one is certainly more on the darker side, yet it works well. The colors, shading, tone and details are wonderful. Overall a nice presentation. Thanks for sharing.

An interesting submission here. I see the murky pond , but the lotus flowers, I think need to be more centered in the piece and perhaps a little larger.

I like how you have drawn the murky pond and the color of the water at the top. The lotus needs some definition and the framing placement of the one from the left side can still be improved. It needs some breathable space and that one is too close to the borderline. I would love to see more of lily pads in this scene and less of the dark and murky pond to be consistent with the title Lotus Pond. Most of all, I would love to see more of the Lotus blossoming in this pond as your focal point.

Thank you for your input. As I said in the description, this is oriental abstract painting. In east Asia, the traditional artists used black ink to paint a lot of things, such as lotus leaves.

oh, I have overlooked that. I think I also mainly gave this a four because of the composition that the blossom is so close to the border when there's an abundance of space. Framing placement is important and not only that you will provide breathable space but also should comply to the rule of third. Another rule is if there is symmetry, you can place your subject at the center but the frame is square. In your image, you could have place your pink lotus close to the center but never too centered unless it is a square. Zao, it is so nice hearing from you. Keep playing with your brush. If you love to paint lotus and wants some samples please feel free to tell me and I will email to some of my photographs that already won first place in various international competition. Take care.
