Powerful initial impact: my first thought was , "wow I would love to photograph this bird" of course we don't have these here .
The western bluebird is gorgeous and in such a lovely pose facing forward but turned its head to allow such a good look at its face!
Spot on focus, this image is sharp and clear and you have brought out such well defined detail over every part of the bird, that glint in its eye establishes a connection between subject and viewer, I feel like I am standing there viewing through my lens. Exposure is perfect , colors snd tones appear natural.
The bird is standing out so beautifully from the black background . I like the gradient blue too.
Well composed and presented!

Hi Kathy.. We have the Eastern Bluebird. It's similar in coloration to your variety but is a little bluer.
• Initial impact: Contrast either long or short scale generates visual impact and this piece is definitely has impact.
• Creativity of presentation: A black background all alone will push contrast off the scale. You done good by utilizing the gradient blue band. It gives the take a visual balance.
• Color Harmony: The color palette of this piece is shallow, but all the visualized colors are pleasing to the viewers eye.
• Center of Interest: The bird with its head turned counter to its body being the center of interest is well placed at just off center.
• Technical Excellence: Given the artists notes and the quality of this piece I am impressed with the quality of this capture.
• Technique: Advanced camera skills plus modest postproduction applications are combined for a visual treat.
• Lighting: Subdued lighting is always a challenge, and you have acquitted yourself very well in that regard with this take.
• Story Telling Ability: The overall fine quality of this shot and the effort it took to get this shot is story enough.
• Recommendation(s): I have none.
Well done Kathy, dare I say this is an exceptionally sharp photograph... Bob

Bob - I don't know what prompted this thorough review but THANK YOU! I have voiced my frustration with the cut and paste, minimal reviews that are nowhere close to what I believe to be FARS intent to collaboratively support each other with lessons learned and recommendations but have rather gone down the path of subject (i.e. I like Deer) interest or subjective criticism on composition (i.e. to much empty space in the photo). Reviewing is not easy! Separating ourselves from what appeals to us, rather than if the piece is skillfully produced is difficult. So again, THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for this detailed, thorough review. Hands down - you get my 1st reviewing vote since re-joining FAR.

What a beautiful bird! Feathered grace in its purest form, a bird in its natural habitat. You framed it well, and the light, shadows, colours, and composition worked well. Good effort!

This is a great photograph of the mountain western bluebirds. Great focus and clarity, detail, with a background that shows the bird at his best.

Yes, photoshop is massive, I doubt I'll ever even scratch the surface of what it has to offer. Thank you for this kind review.
