Indeed, "some beautiful things never last." Like this scene of a beautiful shadow they usually vanish for a moment. Appreciate the descriptive artist's notes. A meaningful scene, Lisa. That's why it is important that we have to seize the moment. Even that lovely flower will just also soon be wilted and gone.

Hi Lisa.. Whoa, Deja vu - Umbra, penumbra and antumbra; "Oh my!!"

• Initial impact: I haven't heard those terms since my first Radiologic Film Contrast & Density class back in 1966.
• Creativity of presentation: Very creative of you to recognize what these random shadows could represent.
• Color Harmony: Minimal color contrast from a narrow palette. I find the background counter colors a distraction.
• Center of Interest: With the C of I off centered the viewers eye is first drawn to the tree in the background, then to the table in the foreground.
• Technical Excellence: I have no concerns regarding technical skills.
• Technique: I wonder if B&W would make the contrast differential more obvious.
• Lighting: Is even & bright with no glare or blown out areas.
• Story Telling Ability: Potentially enlightening.
• Recommendation(s): Crop more of the left & foreground. Seriously consider a short scale contrast B&W version. It would illustrate your point more clearly.

Umbra, Penumbra & Antumbra are also the 3 parts of the image created when X Radiation passes through and opaque object.

You are among a select few who understand what those 3 words mean and how they translate image wise... Bob (RT-R)

Thank you Jesuel, just a note, this was taken outside so there is no glass. This is all natural.

Lights and shadows create depth and define the objects essence. Without them the scene is a cartoon. The light source determines the type of shadows produced. The term you have considered usually describe the shadows created by celestial but also occur naturally in every day things. Very nice observation. Ray

Thanks Ray, it was just a common scene on my deck that seemed beautiful in the moment. The slightly overcast sky seems to deepen the tones while still creating all these beautiful shapes and layers. For a moment, I forgot it was just a chair and table.

Lisa, Isin't it amazing how you see everyday things or the mundane of life in a different light and understand it in a different way. Thats what I mean when I say " seeing ". Ray

Thanks Ray, I do my best to appreciate all people, places and things, really just everything in life. Beauty is not just what we perceived as pleasant, it really is so much more.

Lisa you have a great outlook and You look beyond and see perceptively.. Beauty is many things to different people and How they perceive it. But you have to admit that beauty is perceived by the senses but is percieved differently by different people. Pleasant is the deciding factor, and it is perceived by the senses and judged by them. You say it is much more and so what is much more? We are both in the forest and we both see the trees. Can't have beauty with out perception thats how we judge. Everyone perceives beauty differently because they can. So nice talking Lisa. Ray

A powerful expression captured live by the lens. The light and shadow play on the scene adds so much depth. An evocative piece. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you Sesha, in trying to be more aware of appreciating the little moments in life, I found beauty in something that I usually overlook and just take for granted. It was a moment of serenity that made me happy.

A good looking image presented here, together with interesting physics too! Your fine, full and appropriate composition offers us a very enjoyable view of the effects of light on your location. Exposure and sharpness are fine. Nicely taken!

Much appreciated. The sun mixed with the intermittent cloud overcast really created a great dynamic. I was happy to witness it.
