Guinness looks so serious. I love how you have painted his facial expression and how you have meticulously drawn and painted his coat and its textures. The contrasting color of the background is a good choice. The vertical frame fits well. Overall, this painting is well-defined and sharp. Great job, Phyllis. This will be a good gift.

What I would recommend though is that for the background to have a bit more detail presented in it. I can't tell if the background is supposed to be the ground or a wall.

Guinness is a beautiful boy . I like very much the way you have posed him with his head slightly tilted as if he is listening to something being said to him. He is well rendered with good show of his shape and structure as well as the texture of his fur , his facial expression shows that he is intelligent , I like his colors and the way his ears are positioned.
His eyes bring him to life .
He stands out beautifully from the warm earth toned background.
