Hi Ray, Love the different tones you used to create this gladiolus Those tones give it the lovely iridescent look. I think you did a nice job spreading them throughout the flower Glads are such pretty flowers and you presented this one well. Love the veins in the flowers too. Nicely done and a joy to view! :o) Nancy

Ray, your mastery of pastel techniques is evident in the seamless blending of colors and the delicate layering that creates texture and depth. The balanced composition and effective use of light and shadow guide the viewer's eye, enhancing the painting's enchanting quality. Framed perfectly framed to retain the gaze of the viewer(s).

Very well done Ray. I have complimented your use of complementary colors in the past. This time I have to compliment you on the use of analogous colors which is outstanding. Did you ever teach color theory??

Thank you Allan, for your wonderful review. I studied color theory and I learned from the work of the old masters concerning expressionism, pointillism and fauvism after taking two years of art history and theory. I love abstract expressionism but the family doesn't seem to understand or appreciate that so after three years here I have decided to take a different but familiar approach using my skills in color. Thank you for your interest. Ray

Yeah, I agree, the fan base mostly does not get abstract. I think it takes the right kind of personality and imagination to "get" abstract. In addition to abstract you know how to use color very well. I compared that to those who post snapshots that may take all of 10 seconds.

Im not,an expert so,I will have to trample around as I relate. There is an overwhelming amount of 'light" lines on the petals that distracts my view of the beautiful colors underneath. You have wonderful skills of expressing the components and with a little more effort can bring out what you ate saying. Maybe take a picture and view it in the mirror to get a closer perspective. I adore the purples and blues. Thank you for sharing!

Debra, you are new here, it is evident by your review and rating. For the most part, it is generally accepted that, if you like a piece, a five is respectful, if you really like a piece, six stars is the choice if you have them. If you take 1/2 point off or a point off, 4 1/2 or 4, that is considered berating, which is condescending. Comment all you want but be kind, and know you are now part of a family and you should want to make friends and not discourage your fellow photographers and artists. It is very hard to get the desired 6 stars for a piece and a 4 1/2 wipes it out rating wise. I hope what I said helps you to have a wonderful time here. Ray

This is fabulous ! The gladiolus is such a showy flower and you have created a beauty here Ray!
I love the way you filled the space which shows that this flower is rather large
The colors you have chosen along with the way you applied them makes it iridescent and it shimmers!
Very well chosen background too as it works to emphasize the special gladiolus!
Very well presented . This is truly a pleasure to view!
