This is indeed a great entry into a contest like this, but I also really like the way this was done in black and white. The "dot work" is done in an excellent way and placed in a way which is bringing out so well the shadows and high lights of the woman's body and face.
The talking "masks" in the background are bringing a feel of mystery into this image, and the woman almost looks overwhelmed by all the talking.
Needless to say that this is done paying such a good attention to details. I also the composition is working well. Both the format and framing is perfect, and the woman has got a fine placement on the paper.
This is really well done Mark, and I wish you luck with the contest.

Wonderful drawing and perfect entry for the black and white contest.

Mysterious. I of course, always appreciate B&W works. This one does not disappoint :) ...the faces in the dark, the girl, in the dark but also in the light, the faces... The image definitely sparks the conversation is the girl the ghost or are the faces the ghosts...or is it one face in the dark asking many questions...the song I think goes well with the image. A sad song of grieving...but of love...
I thinks its an awesome pic of light and dark, black and white..I hope my words are not too confusing. Its somewhat spooky, but also comforting in a strange way. It definitely moved me. Thanks

Hi Mark, This is one of the reasons I love your work. You can go from honor to serous images with a drop of the hat! Love the delicate features of the woman, the folds in the dress and the way you did her hair. You're not just a cartoonist my friend ...YOU are a talented artist as well.
I listened to the song and the only thing I could pick up was that the subject singing the song fell in love with a portrait. He would love her to be in his life but she is only an image that once existed on the earthly plain. There were not enough lyrics for me to get the whole picture. I think the tale teller is within the image in those faces. this is as close as he can get to her. That's the story that I see! Regardless of that the image is beautiful. Definitely worth six stars! Good Luck in the contest!

Ah! This is gorgeous black and white work with Sharpies and Bic pens. The fun parts are in the background and then you really show off your skill with dotted background and with the realistic woman sculpture-like in the forefront.

Some.i had to look that up..I spent working this these pens for over a half century and sadly I never had any art classes in my life..I started out learning how to draw from magazines and action comics. Wink..glad you have enjoyed this and thanks for the awesome review
