this is awesome!! I live in NJ and I never have more than one hummingbird at my feeders as they are very territorial and that you caught so many sharing. That is pretty cool the shadows casted and that you had good definition. Great Job!

I have seen a lot of photos with hummingbirds, but I don't think I have seen so many at one time, and for sure not seeing shadows from them. I think it is the shadows doing this photo more than anything.
The photo is quite sharp, but still I would have liked to see better defined details in the hummingbirds. I do however appreciate how difficult this must be with such tiny birds. I like the warm light, and the exposure is very good.
I also like the square format you have cropped the photo into and the placement of the feeder with birds off to the left. I think this is a great looking and well taken photo with a very good DOF Steve, and I wish you luck with the contest.

Thank you Annie for your detailed review. I agree that there could be more clarity. I made a couple of adjustments. Sometimes there are even more birds crowding the feeder. As you know they can be quite aggressive. Fun to watch none the less. Thanks again Annie ~ Steve

This is awesome Steve! It's a very interesting idea and I love the fact that you captured these hummingbirds with your iPhone . I see six hummers at your feeder, you are so lucky, I would be out there all day with my camera if I had hummingbirds.
The shadows were a challenge and it's very impressive to view the two shadows , they are so clear and I love that you got two different flight positions.
This is very well composed and put together. Nice entry for this contest!! Very best wishes to you!

Thank you so much Pat for your review. At peek times I get 8-10 crowding the feeder. They are really aggressive at this point (especially the females). They really don't like the males and are mean to them (poor guys - I can identify with them!) LOL
Thanks again Pat ~ Steve

We do have hummingbirds here in southeast and during the summer we have Rufas hummers that can be seen at our wildlife conservation, I have been meaning to go try my luck with photographing them. Lol so do you get treated mean by women? 😂
-
LOL. Well maybe not too mean.
Try shooting them in slow motion. Amazing to see.

I will try that when I go, thank you !
