This is skilled and beautiful up-close photography. Congratulations on your win. There is such texture on the hermit crab's back. Your time to bring it in and photograph paid off.

Kathy,
An interesting picture of Hermit crab inside a snail's shell, showing great detail. Beautiful composition framing and lighting taken with superb camera techniques and sharp focus.

Wow! A unique capture and presentation of the crawling crab! The framing is well thought out, and the use of light and shadows adds both depth and character. The colours are natural, and the composition ties everything together seamlessly. A fine effort indeed! Thanks for sharing!

This is an amazing photo of a Hermit crab, and I would have been curious as well about how it got to the mountains. I especially like the brown hues of the background and the slight reflection from the shell.
Your focus was spot on and sharp showing such clear and well defined details in every part of the crab, and the exposure is perfect.
I also like the square format and the placement of the crab within the frame. This is an interesting and well taken photo Kathy, and with a very good DOF.

I wonder what this little guy story is. Composition shades, tones colours and presentation is very well done. I would never be brave enough to hold one of them so kudos to you.

you do wonder how these crabs get about don,t you,i like that you got a good close up but also the camera was at the same level as it makes the photo so much better, better than looking down on a subject...Brian

This is a fascinating image, when my kids were little they wanted hermit crabs as pets, I have seen these in the tide pools in Homer and they were just tiny.
This is well captured to show the crab partially in and partially out of its shell, the shell is so smooth and shiny. You have brought out such great detail in this little crab.
Well focused, clear image with good use of the light, I would never guess that this was a countertop the crab and shell are placed upon. I like the soft gold color . Well composed with nice placement within the frame . Well presented!
This is an interesting entry for this contest, best wishes to you! It certainly is curious that this was found in the mountains, I think if I had found it, I would have brought it home too.

Yeah, not sure if it hitched a ride on a bird or something else. It was certainly a rare treat to discover at 8000 ft. elevation.

A good looking image posted here into the competition! Your fine, full and appropriate composition offers us a very enjoyable view of your interesting visitor. Reckon it must be difficult for it to move around carrying that big shell? Well done and good luck!
