What I like the best about this photo is the simplicity and also how nicely the dramatic looking sky is reflected in the water. I also fine the colors pleasing and natural.
The photo is sharp showing such clear and well defined details in every part of the photo, and the exposure is perfect.
The format and framing is very good, and I can see that the rule of thirds are obeyed. I think this is a truly lovely and well taken photo Lee Ann, and with an excellent DOF. I wish you luck with the contest.

It's nice to see that man has allotted wildlife reserves so that their habitat won't be lost. We've taken over so much in the years thought it's sad to see how wildlife has to struggle just to survive. Composition shades, tones, and angle captures the scene perfectly. Good luck in the contest.
