Such a sad facts per artist's notes especially the false advertisement of using old photos to lure the tourists. You should have contribute this image in travel magazines together with your notes, Charlotte.

A good image posted here into the competition, together with interesting notes too! Your fine, full and appropriate composition offers us a dramatic view of that devastated location before you. Exposure and sharpness are fine. Well done and good luck!

Charlotte,
What an horrific sight with the lake filled with dead trees & not a Flamingo to be seen any where is that a wild dog in the foreground?& the tree stump on it's right resembles a monument in a church to a fallen hero!
Beautiful composition framing and lighting taken with superb camera techniques and sharp focus a truly horrific scene.

    Hi Susan,
Thank you very much for your great review, it's exactly the reaction I was hoping for.
No it's a hyena - which I felt rather complimented the already macabre scene.
Ha I hadn't noticed the resemblance to a fallen angel, but you're so right - how appropriate! But did you notice the heron shielding itself from the hyena behind its wings??? :)
There was in fact a plethora of birds still living on and around the lake, and other amazing wildlife in the area, so all is not completely lost, but I have to say I was very shocked when I saw what the lake had become.

It certainly is Michele! Look up Lake Nakuru photos online and you'll see how it used to look - scary!
Thank you very much indeed for your review and wonderful rating, I'm so pleased you appreciated my reasons for entering this particular shot.

Hi Charlotte, what you said in your notes sounded so lovely! It's so sad that global warming can be so devastating! It's sad to hear that safari companies would lead you to believe there is still magic to be found there. Your image tells a sad story, bur one that we should all be aware of. Thanks for sharing! Truly a great image for the contest! Good Luck! :o) Nancy

Hi Nancy, thank you so much for your insightful review.
There is still magic to be found here with a plethora of different birds (did you notice the heron behind the tree stump hiding from the hyena?), plus rhinos, giraffes, zebra, hyena (of course!), wildebeest etc. just no flamingoes left. They could easily promote the park with the other plentiful wildlife - but anyone who sees their photos of the thousands of flamingoes that used to be there will be sorely disappointed.
I have to say I was extremely shocked to see what it had become.

Interesting capture. The clarity is good. The capture of the light is. The angle of the shot of the dog and trees in water is good. The presentation is balanced and eye appealing to the viewer. Good eye and good job overall

Ha ha you evidently don't read adjoining notes - it's a hyena, which I felt fitted so well within the scene of decay and destruction! Lol
    Thanks for your review.

What a very sad story that goes along with this visual. This looks like total devastation on so many levels. Composition shades tones presentation is very powerful and very well done. We need to do better as aman kind.

You've captured a sad sight in nature that has spread all over the world. What an impending tragedy! The framing is well thought out, and the use of light and shadows adds both depth and character. Fine effort. Good luck!

Charlotte, this is one riviting example of negligence in the decision process and the failure to cease dumping. REM in 1987 simply said it with their song. "Its the end of the world as we know it" and that was then. When will
we ever learn? Thank you for your astute observation and sharing. My best to Ben:) Ray

Unfortunately with those in positions of power at present, probably never Ray! I was quite pleased though while in Kenya to find out that plastic bags are illegal there - seen as a third world country, it fascinated me that they were more on the ball than the rest of us! Such a destructive commodity, it should be simple enough to eradicate them world-wide...and yet we don't.
    Ha ha end of rant!
Thanks for your great review Ray, and yes of course I'll pass your best to Ben.

You are welcome Charlotte. People have to open their minds and see the problems and support those who are able to correct the problem. We need the truth to be known and support those who know. Ray

I was horrified Brian! Though I have to admit that I found the dead trees in the water fascinatingly photogenic. There is still abundant wildlife in the area, rhinos, giraffes, zebras and (of course) hyenas not to mention the many, many birds - did you notice the heron hiding from the hyena behind the stump? So I do think it's still worth visiting, but just don't expect to see flamingoes!
Thanks very much for your review.
