Wow, that is a first for me to see mating butterflies. You would think nature would have them mating above ground as they would be less vulnerable for sure.

You did a great job to capture them so well and sharp. Cropping was a good idea as it was totally focues on them. Nice.

Gosh yes, I would have expected them almost anywhere but on the ground! What an interesting find!
Excellent shot too, beautifully in focus with excellent DOF and composition and natural colours (I hate it when people over-saturate!).
Very good luck in the contest!

O suppose terra firma is more stable than wafting on top of a flower lol. This is unusual and interesting. It appears cleanly focused in all that activity. Colours are vibrant and their markings clear. Its an appealing presentation.

Hi Nancy, Wow a wrestling match between two Swallowtails right there in the tall grass and clover. Are they doing what I think they are doing. I haven't been good at titling my work lately but this piece, if it were mine I would call it 'Splendor in the Grass'. So cool Nancy, you seek and you find, a beautiful scene. Amazing. Ray

Hi Ray, These guys are doing exactly what you think they're doing! LOL I love your title for this! Romance is definitely in the air and so is a little hanky-panky! I also love how splendor fits the lovely beauty of a butterfly! You can't go wrong with that title! Thanks for sharing your thoughts and the wonderful review! :o) Nancy

Oh goody, butterfly porn-LOL!!! That's why you should always have your camera with you to capture scenes like this! I was able to photograph a pair of Monarchs mating last year, the first time I've ever been able to do so, and I've only seen it about three times. Would love to have gotten this shot! Excellent focus and color saturation, a great entry for the contest, Nancy, best wishes to you, and congrats on a great photo! :)

This would definitely have been a moment in time that would've been hard to capture. Had you not been there the right moment to do so. The colours tones and textures are very well done and presented. Isn't nature grand. I bet their babies are going going to be beautiful. Thank you for sharing.

A good looking image presented here into the competition! Your fine, full and appropriate composition offers us a very enjoyable view of those amorous insects. Like their coloured wings. Well done and good luck!
