Aimee,
An interesting picture of the two very different gargoyles jutting out from a column on one of the Cathedrals on Paris. Beautiful composition, framing & lighting taken with superb camera techniques & sharp focus.

Hi Aimee, these are gargoyles. they are waterspouts to carry water from the roof and shoot it away from the foundation. The water shoots out of their mouthes. They are typical on churches throughout Europe. Very nice capture of these hideous sculptures. Ray

Hiya, did you happen to go to Germany on the same trip? It's just that these look exactly like the gargoiles on Catherdral St. Peter in Cologne. I may be wrong, but they do look identical.
Either way, your photo is well taken - I know how difficult the light is for this type of image, especially with the sky in the background! Well focused, with good dof and natural looking colours.
Very good luck in the contest.

Thank you Charlotte. It's certainly possible. We took a Viking cruise from Amsterdam to Switzerland stopping in several German towns as well as French.

Ahh I reckon it's Cologne then. Sounds like a wonderful trip!
    You're very welcome.

OMG! What a concept for sculptures. Scary indeed! The grain and light in this photo give it a classic, almost cinematic feelâ€"a masterful play between light and shadow. Thanks for sharing!

This is a great capture of medieval characters on the churches in Europe; not unusual in that part of the world where gargoyles are common on buildings of worship.

Hi Aimee, Those two characters look like something you'd see in a Harry Potter film. It's strange to see them as apart of a church. I have to say it's not something I'd expect to see at all! Very strange but interesting. Glad you saw them! You got a nice shot with good focus and lighting. I think it's a great image for the "Unexpected Angle contest!
It's certainly "Out of the box" imagery! Good Luck in the contest! :o) Nancy

I probably would've screamed with you if I'd seen that. Very dramatic to say the least. I like the angle that you used to present these figures. Colours and toes are well done. Thank you for sharing. Good luck in the contest.
