Awesome and difficult to get this unique image. Just that you were able to capture this and sharing it with us is nice. They say being in the right place in the right time is big part of success ; and as a photographer being ready is so hard.

Charlotte,
A beautiful picture of the Hyena,
carrying it's catch to a spot where it's safe to eat. Beautiful composition framing and lighting taken with superb camera techniques and sharp focus.

Thank you SO much Susan, for your great review and rating!
Yes, he'd carried a long way, we were watching him from being a small dot in the distance, coming right past our vehicle and then continuing - perhaps he had young to feed.

A great capture of this hyena carrying its prey. True, nature is brutal but that is how the balance of nature succeeds. Good focus and clarity shown here; lovely detail of the hyena's coat shown. Good luck in the contest.

Yes, nature can be brutal. Right time and right place to have captured this story of survival. I like the angle and framing placement, showcasing the home of this hyena. An image with a story to tell, Charlotte.

Yes it can be, but that's life. you have captured a great image of this hyena , and from looking at its prize, I would say it is a baby giraffe. Beautifully focused with excellent exposure, very well composed with the hyena off center, giving him room to continue walking off past the vehicle. A great entry for this contest, wish you all the best!

Thank you SO much for your great review and rating! Very much appreciated indeed!
Yes, I think sadly it probably was a baby giraffe - did you know that when a giraffe is born the mother is standing, so their first experience in life is a 6 foot drop onto the ground!!!

Well Charlotte, nature is nature for a reason. It knows how to balance survival and control over population. Even though we pretty much all route for the underdog but the strong survive. Good composition, lighting and focus, well done. It always seems we don't have on the right lens at those special fast moments :)

Thank you very much for your kind review. Yes, no one likes hyenas particularly (except me! Lol) but their clean-up role is very important in nature; I don't suppose it was him that made the kill, more likely he snuck in and stole it once the lions had had their fill as they tend to be more scavangers - though they do kill sometimes.

MY goodness Charlotte! I'm not sure but that looks like a giraffe leg. If that's the whole leg it must have been a baby. SO sad, but these guys do have to eat. Though the face is a little dark you still managed to get a pretty good shot! I'm surprised this guy didn't seem to be bothered by you at all! Focus is good! Nice shot of a sad circumstance! Good Luck in the Contest!:o) Nancy

Yeah damn wildlife, they never take us photographers into consideration by turning and facing the sun! Lol
Yes I reckon it was a baby giraffe, poor little thing, just glad I wasn't there for the kill!

Hi Charlotte, looks like the hyena has the leg of his prey as he saunters down the road. Looks very dry and hot there. I guess thats the additional price to pay. Thanks for sharing. Ray
